Have you seen this new term? Forest Bathing. Someone, somewhere decided to call a walk in the woods “forest bathing.”
An article I recently saw in Time magazine shared insight on the stats of how many people will be living in cities by 2050. The article stated that “by 2050, 66% of the worlds population is projected to live in cities.” That’s a pretty staggering number.
The article went on to state that according to the EPA the average American spends “93% of his or her time indoors.”
My first thought, how sad. We aren’t meant to be robots, clocking in, clocking out each day then going home to our apartments or homes just to do it all again the next day.
It’s genuinely unfortunate to me that we have to create a name, (and there’s even a book!) to get people to jump on with a “movement” of simply going outside. And get this, there are even “trained forest therapists.” I’m not joking. Someone trained in walking outdoors… yes I’m sure I’m completely minimizing this, but I think walking in nature in uninterrupted solitude is kind of the point. Do we need someone to coach us through how to walk with no distraction? Do we need someone to show us how to look around and take in the beauty of nature? Because if we do, I think society has an even bigger problem than lack of time outdoors!
I will say we here at Diva absolutely without a doubt LOVE nature! That’s exactly why our mission is so important to us! Our goal is to plant a minimum of 2,500 trees this year. We do believe nature should be preserved and enjoyed by all, and it’s an incredibly important part of our business philosophy. We understand how revived, de-stressed and energized we feel when we get out and stroll through the woods. It’s such an under utilized and under appreciated gift from above.
We hope you make an effort to get outdoors more this year! Let that natural vitamin D soak in. Let that park or forest air sink into your lungs. Listen to the wind rustle the leaves. All these simple pleasures will help restore your soul. <3
Get on with your forest bathing in 2023, and let us know what you think!
